Vanilla Mule recipe

The Vanilla Mule from Galliano is a twist on the original mule recipe. Compared to the strong ginger taste profile of the Moscow mule, the Vanilla Mule has a sweet and fresh taste. That makes our recipe a perfectly refreshing summer drink to enjoy.

Add 3 dashes of Angostura bitter for a more complex, aromatic touch. A great add on in flavor fitting the ginger & vanilla taste.

Serve

Our cocktail is served in a stylish Italian Spritzer Glass filled with ice cubes. Moscow mules are traditionally served in copper mugs because this material takes on the cold temperature of the liquid very well. However, since we created our twist on the recipe, we also chose to serve in a different type of glass, fitting Italian standards. Not only do we want to create a pretty display, but also bring out the complexities in flavor, temperature, color, and aroma.

How to make a Vanilla Mule

To create a Vanilla Mule, you start building the ingredients into an ice-filled Italian Spritzer Glass. Because of the limited ingredients, there is no need to shake the ingredients in a shaker or mixing glass. Squeeze and drop a lime wedge in the cocktail and garnish with a mint sprig.

What's the difference of the Galliano Vanilla Mule to a Classic Mule?

The original Moscow Mule recipe has a strong and spicy flavor due to its ingredients like vodka, ginger beer, lime juice, and mint. Although refreshing, Galliano has been experimenting to develop a lighter variant for a well known Italian Aperitif moment, which is softer, sweeter and more balanced. “But what’s the difference?” I hear you say. Next to the fact that we use Galliano Vanilla, which is lower in alcohol, instead of vodka, we also give the option to either use ginger ale or ginger beer, which is a lighter alternative in taste and calories. If you like a stronger, more complex, botanical variant of the Mule, you can also use Galliano Autentico instead of Galliano Vanilla. Autentico gives more power due to its higher alcohol strength (42,3%) and has a more botanical palette, next to the vanilla flavor. The difference between ginger beer and ginger ale is that the beer has a strong ginger flavor with a spicy finish, and the ale has a milder and sweeter ginger flavor. When using ginger ale, the outcome will be a sweeter, fresher and lighter variant of the world-famous cocktail, perfect for a hot summer day. However, if you do like the strong ginger taste, then ginger beer is the way to go.

Moscow Mule Origin

Although the name might imply differently, the Moscow Mule originated in the U.S. in the 1940s. Sophie Berezinski had immigrated from Russia to the United States intending to sell 2000 solid copper mugs made by her father. Sophie went door to door all over Hollywood and stumbled upon the famous Cock ‘n’ Bull pub. Jack Morgan, the owner of the pub, was trying to introduce its audience to his brand of ginger beer. Together with John Martin, the owner of the Smirnoff Vodka distillery, they were drinking their sorrows away because of their disappointing sales. Sophie told her story, which resulted in the trio spending hours developing a drink that would combine these three products. After a few trials and errors, they created a cocktail recipe that would solve all their problems. The Moscow Mule was born on that day.

Next to the Vanilla Mule, Galliano has other summer favorites, such as the Harvey Wallbanger which tastes more fruity due to the orange juice. If you’re not a fan of oranges, then the Galliano Sour might fit you better. Compared to the sweet and refreshing tones of the Vanilla Mule, the Galliano Sour has more of a sweet and sour experience.
